laskarines

Premiere 05.12.2025, LOFFT - DAS THEATER

In LASKARINES, three contemporary dancers embody the emotionality of an inner fight: the fight for self-realization. Caught between personal dreams, social expectations, and life’s unpredictability, they navigate a balancing act that never fully succeeds. The performance moves from determination, joy, and contentment to stress, anger, and exhaustion. Where do the boundaries of our inner fights lie? And when does the pursuit of a dream become a burden?

The title LASKARINES refers to Laskarina Bouboulina, a prominent fighter in the Greek Revolution of 1821, who was exiled due to political conflicts and ultimately lost her life in a family dispute. Would Laskarina make the same choices today?

Choreographer Vasiliki Bara draws on her Greek heritage and contemporary media to create something new on stage. For the choreographic material, she fuses traditional Greek men’s dances with the aesthetics of video games – two seemingly opposing worlds united by the notion of fight. Together with the dancers, she develops a choreography of dynamic steps, jumps, and formations. The performance is accompanied by electroacoustic compositions by Konstantinos Baras, created especially for the piece.

A production by Vasiliki Bara, in co-production with LOFFT – DAS THEATER and in cooperation with 4fT-Tanzplattform Leipzig and Synergy of Music Theatre Larissa.Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig. Awarded by “kulturMut”, the crowdfunding platform of the Aventis Foundation.
